Session Detail:    Classroom 4 Day

This five-day instructor-led is an in depth hands-on study of JavaScript. The course includes detailed hands-on labs and Q and A labs. The labs include multiple projects that update an existing web site.

Prerequisites

  • Useful, but not required:
  • Previous programming experience using C, C# or Java.
  • HTML and CSS web development.

  • Lesson 5: Writing and Testing JavaScript

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • Add basic scripts to a web page
  • Use the F12 tools to explore pages

Module 2: The Document Object Model

  • Lesson 1: The DOM
  • Lesson 2: Accessing Objects from the DOM
  • Lesson 3: Responding to Events
  • Lesson 4: Adding Elements to the DOM

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • Describe the DOM and Elements
  • Write JavaScript code to search and update the DOM
  • Write code to respond to DOM object events
  • Add and remove Elements to and from the DOM

Module 3: Introduction to jQuery

  • Lesson 1: jQuery
  • Lesson 2: Downloading the jQuery Library
  • Lesson 3: jQuery Versions
  • Lesson 4: Linking to the Library
  • Lesson 5: Selecting Elements using jQuery
  • Lesson 6: Working with the Data Returned by jQuery
  • Lesson 7: Setting CSS Properties
  • Lesson 8: Running a Function Against the jQuery Return Set

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • Describe the role of libraries like jQuery in JavaScript and web development
  • Add the jQuery library to a project
  • Find and retrieve, update and create new elements in the DOM

  • Lesson 3: Data Formats XML and JSON
  • Lesson 4: Ajax
  • Lesson 5: RESTful Web Services
  • Lesson 6: OData
  • Lesson 7: OData Queries

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • Describe web services and how to interact with them from JavaScript and jQuery
  • Work with XML and JSON data
  • Create queries and update data using REST and OData

Module 5: Diving in Deeper

  • Lesson 2: Data Types and Objects
  • Lesson 3: Extending Data Types
  • Lesson 4: Variables, Scopes and Hoisting
  • Lesson 5: Functions
  • Lesson 6: The this Keyword
  • Lesson 7: Errors
  • Lesson 8: Recursion

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • Describe how JavaScript variables are used, stored, and manipulated.
  • Understand how JavaScript variables and functions are scoped, and occasionally hoisted.
  • Create functions, anonymous functions and Closures.
  • Describe and use the this keyword in functions.
  • Create try-catch blocks and handle errors.
